There are almost 100 foreign embassies in the UAE and about 80 of them are in Dubai. The first American Embassy Branch Office was opened in Dubai in 1976 in the Al Futtaim Building Deira. The office shifted to the World Trade Center in 1981. The Embassy Branch Office gained the status of a Consulate General in the year 1985.

Presently, the Consulate General in the NCC. The compound in Bur Dubai covers six acres and is beside the Dubai Creek. The date of its inauguration was 2011. With this move, the Consulate General can provide better public services that include visa services and helping US citizens.

The Consulate General is responsible for non-immigrant and immigrant services to residents and citizens of Dubai and the five Northern Emirates. The services include passport, citizenship and notarial services.  The Consulate building is at the corner of the Al Seef Road and Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Road in Bur Dubai.

An individual who wants to apply for a American Visa must first fill and submit the DS-160 form. You can do this at https://ceac.state.gov/genniv/

He/she must have the passport, information regarding previous U.S. visas and all documents applicable to the travel to the United States of America in near future.

An important this is to note down the Application ID that’s present at the top right of the page. The Application ID will be needed for continuing the application if the browser closes before the application submission or any reason.

The next step is fixing an appointment. For that, the person must visit the Official website for US Visa Information and Appointment Services.

On the page, the person must select from “Non-immigrant Visa” and “immigrant Visa applicant” and click on “UAE: English.”

In the sign-in page that opens he/she must create a new account. The particulars that he/she must type in are the name, passport No., and contact particulars. Next is stipulating a feasible date for the interview. It’s best to set the date 3 or 4 months before the date of the travel.

Next is paying the visa fee. A receipt page will open and the person should take a print out of this page and carry it om the day of  interview.

On the specified day the person will meet the Officer who will take the interview.
